The House:
Traditional 19th-century (built in 1872) French Canadian farmhouse on a large (3000 square metres) riverfront lot offers a 1920's family summer home ambiance unspoiled by more urban renovations.
Bright, airy interior includes double living room and enclosed rear sun porch offering a panoramic view of the St-Lawrence; kitchen with river view and adjacent dining room; three second-floor bedrooms, two with double beds and one with two twin beds; second floor bathroom with large cast-iron bath and shower; in-house high-speed internet; 42-inch flat-screen monitor for connection to laptop (no cable service); exterior fireplace with grill for barbeque overlooking the beach; exterior shower.

Notre Dame du Portage and the surrounding area is a mecca for Nature lovers and people who enjoy the outdoors offering a large selction of hiking trails with magnificent river views, rock climbing, an Olympic pool and public tennis courts in the centre of the village with golf a ten minute drive away; cyclists can follow the river on route 132 or explore the path of a former rail line between Rivière du Loup and Edmundston, N.B., kayakers and paddle boarders have only to step out the back door; enjoy fine dining at the Auberge du Portage or Auberge Sur Mer next door, antique dealers, artisinal bakeries, bookstores, etc., of course none of the above conveys the overall sense of well-being that comes from breathing the fresh salt air, enjoying the cool nights and sunny days, the endless dialogue between river and sky, the thrill of a serendipitous encounter with Nature.
